How to use your Top-up Code

In a hurry and need to top-up your meter straight away? Use our handy guides and the unique Top-up Code from your top-up to add the credit to your meter now!

What meter do you have? Choose your meter from the pictures below and we’ll show you how to top-up manually using your meter keypad and/or buttons.

Meter instructions

Secure SMETS1

Electricity Meter
For both gas and electricity SMETS1 meters;
1. Press A on your meter.
2. Enter your Top-up Code.
3. Press B to confirm.

For both gas and electricity SMETS2 meters;
1. Press A to select mode.
2. Press 1 for Vend Mode.
3. Enter your Top-up Code.
4. Press B to confirm.

For your electricity Aclara smart meter;
1. Press the A button on the meter.
2. Press the A button again (this time hold it down until the top-up screen is shown).
3. Use the A and B buttons to enter your Top-up Code. A will let you select individual digits; B will scroll to the next digit.
4. Press and hold B to confirm your Top-up Code.
Don’t forget - your meter will lock you out if you have too many failed attempts inputting the code.

For your electricity EDMI smart meter;
1. Press the OK button.
2. Press and hold the OK button again to enter the Prepay screen.
3. Press and hold the OK button again to enter Prepay Top-up screen.
4. Enter your Top-up Code – you can use the arrows to select the digits. The OK button will move to the next digit.
5. Press and hold OK to confirm your Top-up Code.
If you enter any information incorrectly, just press and hold RETURN to go back and change the number you entered.

For your electricity Elster SMETS1 meter;
1. Press the middle button to access the main menu.
2. Use the top and bottom buttons to scroll to Prepayment, and press enter.
3. Head to ‘Enter UTRN’ and press the middle button.
4. Enter your Top-up Code using the top and bottom buttons to select digits, press the middle button to move to the next number.
5. Press and hold the middle button to confirm your entry.

For your electricity Elster meter;
1. Press the middle button to access the main menu.
2. Use the top and bottom buttons to scroll to Prepayment, and press enter.
3. Head to ‘Enter UTRN’ and press the middle button.
4. Enter your Top-up Code using the top and bottom buttons to select digits, press the middle button to move to the next number.
5. Press and hold the middle button to confirm your entry.

For your E7 Kaifa meter;
1. Go to top-up in the menu by pressing K1.
2. Long press K2 to enter a Top-up Code.
3. Short press K2 to select the correct number.
4. Short press K1 to confirm selected number.
5. Continue the above until you have completed the whole Top-up Code.
6. Long press K1 to submit the whole Top-up Code.
7. Your meter will now be credited with your Top-up.

For your electricity Itron meter;
1. Use the B button to get to Command Menu and press orange to select.
2. Use the B button again to find Token Entry and press orange to select.
3. Use the blue and orange buttons to enter your Top-up Code – blue will scroll through the numbers, and orange will select the digit.

For your electricity L&G meter;
1. Press A to access the ‘Add credit’ screen, then press B.
2. Use the A and B buttons to enter your Top-up Code. A will let you select the right digit; B will move you to the next digit.
3. Press and hold the B button when you’re done to submit your code.
Don’t forget - if 5 tries have failed, your meter will lock for 1 hour.

Gas Meter
For both gas and electricity SMETS1 meters;
1. Press A on your meter.
2. Enter your Top-up Code.
3. Press B to confirm.

For both gas and electricity SMETS2 meters;
1. Press A to select mode.
2. Press 1 for Vend Mode.
3. Enter your Top-up Code.
4. Press B to confirm.

For your gas Aclara smart meter;
1. Press any button to wake up your meter.
2. Press the C button to bring up the main menu.
3. Press the B button until you get to ‘Prepayment’ and press the C button to enter the prepayment menu.
4. Press the B button until you find ‘New Payment’ and press the C button to confirm.
5. Use the A and B buttons to enter your Top-up Code. A will let you select the individual digits, and B will move you to the next digit.
6. Press the C button to confirm. You should then get the message ‘Top-up accepted’.

For your gas EDMI smart meter;
1. Press and hold the OK button to access the main menu. Use the OK button to show the Prepay Menu.
2. Press and hold OK to show the Top Up screen. Press and hold OK again.
3. Use the OK button to select the digits of your Top-up Code. Press and hold OK to move to the next digit.
4. Press and hold OK after you’ve entered your last digit to confirm the Top-up Code.
If you enter any information incorrectly, just press and hold RETURN to go back and change the number you entered.

For your gas Elster SMETS1 meter;

3. Press the middle button again.
4. Enter your Top-up Code using the arrows.
5. The arrows will let you select the digits, use the middle button to move to the next number.
6. Press and hold the middle button to confirm.

For your gas Elster smart meter;
1. Press the middle round button on your meter.
2. Press the right arrow to find UTRN Entry.
3. Press the middle button again.
4. Enter your Top-up Code using the arrows.
5. The arrows will let you select the digits, use the middle button to move to the next number.
6. Press and hold the middle button to confirm.

For your gas Flonidon meter;
1. Press any button to wake up your meter.
2. Press the C button to bring up the main menu.
3. Press the B button until you get to ‘Prepayment’ and press the C button to enter the prepayment menu.
4. Press the B button until you find ‘New Payment’ and press the C button to confirm.
5. Use the A and B buttons to enter your Top-up Code. A will let you select the individual digits, and B will move you to the next digit.
6. Press the C button to confirm. You should then get the message ‘Top-up accepted’.

For your gas Itron meter;
1. Head to Top-up Menu.
2. Use the blue and orange buttons and the OK button to enter your Top-up Code. Blue and orange buttons will select individual digits, OK selects and moves to the next digit.
3. Use Return to go back. Press the OK button to confirm your entry.

For your gas L&G meter;
1. Press the A button twice and then the B button.
2. Press the A and B buttons to enter your Top-up Code. A will let you scroll through digits and B selects and moves to the next number.
3. Press and hold B to confirm your entry.
