Your QR Code

What is a QR code?

‘Quick Response Codes’ or QR codes as they are most commonly abbreviated to are machine readable optical labels, these contain information about the item to which it is attached

Why have I got a QR code on my Bill/ Annual Statement/ Top-up Statement and how do I use it?

Energy suppliers are now required to place QR codes on any correspondence sent to customers which detail your ‘Statement of Account’, this means on any bills, annual statement or top-up statements you receive from us as of 1st July 2015.

The information detailed within the QR code allow you use any switching site app, for example USwitch and Compare the Market, to make a comparison without you having to input any manual information. The switching site app will compare your current usage against the deals you could receive through other suppliers, making the option to switch supplier much easier and quicker!

The information held in the QR code includes:

  • Your current tariff plan name
  • Your current tariff plan rate
  • Your annual consumption data - please note: where you have not been on supply with us for longer than 12 months, your consumption data will be based on national averages
  • Annual bill period dates
  • Your meter point reference numbers which relate directly to the meters in your property

How to use a QR code

If you have a smartphone these codes are very easy to use, all you have to do is download a QR code scanning application - you will usually find these on your device's ‘App Store’. Once you’ve downloaded the app, open it and use it to take a picture of the code. The app will decode the message and give you the action the QR code is requesting.
