Save up to £215 a year

Yearly savings

It’s simple – just take a look at how you cook. Here are five simple ways to save up to £215 a year*.

Save up to £36 per year

Simmer rather than boil

Once the water has reached boiling point, turn down the heat and simmer until the food has cooked. It won’t take any longer, but it will save you money.

Save up to £10 per year

Avoid overfilling the kettle

Only boil as much water as you need – when making a cuppa use the cups to fill the kettle, or when using boiling water for cooking be sure to measure it out.

Use more efficient appliances

Ovens can be expensive to use. Using a microwave, air fryer or slow cooker costs a lot less. We’re doing everything we can to encourage supermarkets and food brands to include these appliances on their cooking instructions to make these savings even easier.

Batch cook

Cooking more than one meal at a time cuts down the time appliances are in use. Using a microwave to defrost a pre-made meal costs a lot less than oven-cooking making a meal from scratch.

Use a lid/right-sized pan

Match the size of the pan base to the hob ring and always use a lid to stop heat escaping. Flames escaping around the pan is wasted heat – try to avoid this.
