Compare our gas and electricity tariffs

Our Tariffs

The cheapest tariff on paper isn’t always the best fit because there’s more to energy than the headline price. Here are our most common gas and electricity tariffs, and how customers are getting the most out of them.

Most Popular Tariff

Smart Energy

With two simple Unit Rates and no Standing Charge, our core Pay As You Go tariff only charges you for the energy you actually use. Pay for your actual usage, not predicted usage.

Cheaper energy overnight

Smart E7

All the benefits of our Smart Energy tariff, but designed to pair with Economy 7 electricity meters to offer cheaper electricity after dark. Great for home EV charging or overnight appliance usage.

How to properly compare tariffs between suppliers?

Energy comparison 101

When you’re looking to cut costs, it’s natural to look around at what other suppliers are offering. But energy tariffs can be confusing and it’s important to understand what to actually compare.

The role of the Energy Price Cap

Ofgem’s Energy Price Cap applies to every supplier’s variable tariffs, but the common myth is that this caps how much you pay each month. It doesn’t. Despite the name, it actually caps the rates you’re charged for your energy. Two households on the exact same tariff can be paying completely different amounts each month.

The less you use, the less you’ll pay. That’s why we’re always trying to help keep costs down by giving you our Energy High 5 tips to use less and save more.

PRICE CAP EXPLAINED

Not all energy prices are like-for-like

A lower headline saving can be appealing but may not always give you the savings you expect. Your actual costs can be impacted by:

  • Your actual energy usage.
  • Unit Rates and Standing Charge.
  • Tariff type (Fixed versus Variable).
  • Exit fees.
  • Short-lived discounts or joining incentives that could expire.

Fairer energy,
built around you

At Utilita, we’re always fighting for a better energy deal. We’re lobbying government and energy regulators on behalf of our customers, with the hope of building a fairer, more transparent energy system for those who need it most. Life isn’t always fair, but energy should be.

FAQs

Switching energy suppliers is simple, and a standard switch could take as little as five working days.

Here’s how it works:

1. Choose your new tariff.

2. Add a few details about your home and current supply.

3. Confirm the switch.

Your new supplier then contacts your old one and sorts the admin. Near the switch date, you may be asked for a meter reading so your final bill and first new bill are accurate. If you have a smart meter, this may happen automatically.

If you’ve got large outstanding debt with your current supplier, or your meter has communication issues, this could delay your switch.

We’ll take care of the switching process and keep you updated along the way.

No. We’re Smart Pay As You Go energy specialists, but we offer Direct Debit tariffs too.

For households focused on budgeting, Smart Pay As You Go can be a much simpler way to stay in control of the energy you use and your overall spend. You can avoid estimated bills and only pay for what you actually use day-to-day.

Yes. If you pay energy bills directly to the supplier, you can usually choose your supplier yourself.

There are exceptions to this, including when your landlord pays the bill directly, or if energy is included in your rent. In that case, the landlord chooses the supplier.

If your tenancy agreement says you need to tell your landlord about a switch, make sure you do so after changing supplier. It helps keep everything clear and avoids any mix-ups later on.

If you’ve moved home or you’re not sure who supplies your property, there are a few ways to check.

For electricity, use the Energy Networks Association database or contact your local electricity network. For gas, use the Find My Supplier service or call the Meter Number Helpline. You can also check a recent bill or look for branding on your meter.

If you’ve just moved into a home supplied by Utilita, please fill in our simple Moving In form.

When you leave your old home, make sure you know whose name is on the energy account, take a final meter reading, and give it to your supplier so they can close the account properly. If you rent, check your tenancy agreement too, as it may say when you need to tell your landlord or supplier you’re moving out.

When you move into your new home, you’ll usually be placed on a deemed contract with the current supplier there. Take a meter reading on day one, check whose name should be on the account, contact that supplier, and compare deals if you want to switch. If you’re renting, it’s also worth checking your tenancy agreement for any move-in notification requirements.

If you’re moving out of a home supplied by Utilita, please fill in our simple Moving Out form.
