Utilita agrees sale of more than 40,000 credit customers to EDF

Strategic move accelerates Utilita’s ambition to grow and further develop its market-leading Smart Pay As You Go Energy operation.

Utilita Energy has reached an agreement under which EDF, Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity, will acquire more than 40,000 of its credit customers. The transfer will take effect from 8 November 2025.

Customers included in the transfer will benefit from EDF’s experience in supporting credit accounts, access to a wider range of tariffs, and competitive pricing. For Utilita, the agreement supports its ambition to accelerate the growth and further development of its market-leading Smart Pay As You Go Energy operations.

Customers moving to EDF will receive direct communication in the coming days with full details on the next steps to ensure a smooth transition. There will be no interruption to energy supply, and prices will remain unchanged during the current price cap period. All accounts and credit balances will remain fully protected.

“Our relationship with EDF, Utilita’s energy trading partner since August 2024, continues to go from strength to strength as we align on key industry matters.

“We have thought for some time that this group would ultimately be best served by a supplier that specialises in supporting credit customers. This deal makes that happen.

“It is also in line with our core strategy and strengths, ensuring Utilita remains an innovator and leader in Smart Pay As You Go Energy for the long term.

“I would like to thank all customers for their loyalty. They will be in safe hands with EDF, a trusted brand that shares our values and commitment to transparency and customer excellence.”

Bill Bullen, CEO of Utilita Energy

“We are delighted to welcome these customers to EDF. This agreement strengthens our long-term commitment to delivering reliable, customer-focused energy services. With our strong Trustpilot rating, customers can have confidence in a seamless transition and ongoing support from a trusted supplier.”
