Having listened to you - our customers – we’re changing how you pay for your energy on our Smart Energy tariff from 1 July 2018.
Currently, you switch from Unit Rate 1 to 2 after using 180 kWh per month. But, from 1 July, you’ll switch after you’ve used 2 kWh per day. While Unit Rate 1 will increase, it will only apply up to 62 kWh per month - not 180 kWh. In short, this will help you spread the cost of your energy more evenly over the month.
Unit Rate 1 is increasing; however, the majority of customers will not experience a change to their total annual costs as the higher Unit Rate 1 applies to far fewer units (2 kWh per day). Some very low users may pay slightly more on an annual basis, but will still benefit from more even spread of costs. Plus, they’ll avoid the higher Unit Rate 1 completely on any days where no energy is used.
The effect will vary according to your usage, but all our prices continue to comply with the prepayment price cap.
Our Smart Energy Tariff has two unit rates, the first unit rate is priced higher than the second. Currently, with the Smart Energy tariff, you will switch from Unit Rate 1 to 2 after using 180 kWh per month.
From 1 July, the Smart Energy tariff will have a daily threshold of 2 kWh which means, you will switch from Unit Rate 1 to 2 after using just 2 kWh per day.
Following feedback from our customers who noticed an increase in spend at the beginning of the month, we’re changing the first unit rate threshold on our Smart Energy tariff to help spread costs more evenly over the month.
If you have any issues with our pricing restructure, you can speak to our Customer Care Team who will be happy to explain any queries or concerns about tariff change and how it affects you.
