Are you breathing a sigh of relief now the School Summer Holidays are nearing an end? With just under a week to go, it can seem daunting trying to prepare for the first day back of term.
Don’t fear, it doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. We’ve created the ultimate back to school checklist to get the kids prepared and back to school hassle-free.
Double check information from the school
Most schools will send letters and newsletters to update parents on the essential things you need to know, so make sure you check the last few that your child brought home before the summer holidays and any that came through in the post since then. The schools website and social media pages will also provide news and information you need to know, so make a point to check these too.
Make sure any homework or summer projects have been completed
If the children have just pulled out their homework sheet last minute, you still have time left to complete it. It will give them something to do for the last week of the school holidays; and give you some time off from finding ways to entertain them!
Clear out pencil cases and stationery
The back to school routine can often result in a trip to the local stationery store to stock up on an array of new items from a new pencil case, to new gel pens.
Cut corners by have a clear out of the current pencil cases and empty any old pencil sharpening’s along with giving it a wash, it will look good as new!
Remember to fill in any permission slips laying in the school bags, so they’re ready to go back with the children. Setting up a filing system or getting a monthly calendar to stick on the fridge can really help when having to remember all the school trip and school club dates and times.
Have a delve into the wardrobe before going to the shops
You never know what you might find after having a good delve into the wardrobes. There may be barely used school supplies, forgotten clothes, or an old backpack that’s suddenly trendy again.
Put bedtime battles to rest
Throughout the Summer Holidays it’s easy to get out of the usual bedtime routine, with sleepovers, staying up that extra hour to watch a movie, or allowing one more hour on the games console. Starting to re-adjust the weekly bed time routine around a week before term starts again will iron out any potential bedtime antics.
Have a copy of their school time-table on the fridge
Knowing which classes your little ones have at the start of the week can help prepare them and prompt them to be organised. For example, if you know what day they have P.E., helping them to remember their kit will be a life-saver, they won’t be able to moan at you for having to wear the spare lost and found kit!
Make a lunchbox food List
Sitting down for five minutes and going through which sandwich fillings and fruit is their current favourite is a good way to make sure you don’t get any half-eaten sarnies or apples left in the lunch box at the end of the day, which will save you on food waste. Whilst you’re at it, it’s a good time to stock up on sandwich bags, little snacks, and cartons of juice.
