So, the Autumn Half-Term is here and you’re thinking of ideas to keep the kids entertained. The dreaded phrase “I’m bored” is something no parent wants to hear.

Get a supply of coloured cards, children’s scissors, glue and anything else you may want to make some fun games and creations. Games like pin the tail on the donkey, or snakes and ladders can be easily made at home.
An alternative to this would be to get a few good old fashioned board games, such as Twister or Connect 4. Quite often, these can be found in Charity shops, to save on the pennies.
Planning a baking or cooking day can be a low cost fun activity that will not only teach the children something, but also take up a good few hours. From finding a recipe, to getting the ingredients, it’s all a fun process! A few simple and tasty ideas are; Making your own pizza, or baking some Autumn themed biscuits.
Building a fort indoors with blankets and sheets is a great activity to do with the kids. Once it’s set up, give them a picnic and you could put a movie on – it’s bound to keep them occupied for a few hours!
You don’t have to go far to have a picnic – even if it’s out in the garden, or your local park. It doesn’t have to be expensive either, simply put together what you usually would for lunch, grab a blanket and your good to go. A change of scenery can make all the difference.
Make a treasure map with clues to find some treasure you’ve hidden somewhere in the home/garden. It doesn’t have to be something costly or big, any little treat will be exciting when it is found.
One of the nicest ways to express creativity is to use paint. Get a paint pallet from the local stationary or toy store and some large pieces of paper. You can even go as far as to use hands and feet. To avoid any stress, prepare the area well and cover with plastic or newspapers, as well as a washing up bowl to wash hands (and feet if they’re used).

Pick up a sketch pad and some pencils and you’re good to go. Whether it’s sketching you, a tree in the local park, or something around the house, sketching can take up hours and can encourage your children to unleash their inner artist.
Taking your little ones to the local swimming complex can pass hours, especially if it has a selection of slides. You can go and grab yourself a coffee and have some ‘you time’ while the kids run riot.
It’s always nice to get out and get some fresh air - If it’s on the beach, collecting different looking shells and stones can be interesting. If it’s through your local park or forest, get your little ones to seek out different wildlife, bugs, plants, flowers, trees, and different colour Autumnal leaves. Autumn is the perfect time for this kind of activity!
Use your local library, you won’t regret it. In most library’s these days you can get more than just books; you can rent music, movies, and even video games (if your children are nagging for the latest Xbox game). You can always make a day out of it and do some reading while you’re there, instead of just getting some books and heading home.
Plan some play dates and invite friend’s over. While they spend time with their friends, you can get spend some time doing what you want/need to do. Whether it’s putting your feet up with a movie, catching up with your favorite soap – or even getting some housework done (what a treat, eh)!
